The Callaway softball team needed a region win on the road Monday and got just that in an 11-inning thriller against Jackson. The Cavaliers come out on top 6-4 for one of their most important wins of the season so far.

The game was tied at two runs apiece until the 11th inning. Callaway struck first with four runs in the top of the inning before Jackson attempted a rally, but fell short with just two runs in the bottom of the 11th.

Kaitlyn Williams grounded out to send Madison Kemp home and break the deadlock. Savannah Rice delivered a clutch two-out two-run double that put Callaway up 5-2 and would end up being the winning runs of the game. The Cavaliers tacked on one more courtesy of an error from Jackson.

The Red Devils scored two runs and got a runner as far as third base with no outs in the bottom of the 11th, but could not find a way to extend the game.

The Cavaliers struck first in the game when Bella Cleveland hit a one-run single in the top of the third. The lead would not last with Jackson tying the game up with a run in the fourth inning.

An error allowed a Cavalier base runner to score in the top of the sixth to give the away team the lead back, but it was once again short lived with the Red Devils tying the game up on the bottom of the inning which is where the game would stay until the dramatic 11th inning.

Ella Kelly, Cleveland and Rice led offense with two hits apiece. Kemp, Williams and Karlie Walker all had a hit each.

Mackenzie Toney got the start in the circle and pitched a strong 11-inning complete game in which she struck out 12 batters while allowing eight hits and three earned runs.

Callaway is now 7-14 overall and 5-5 in region play. The Cavaliers are currently third in region 2-2A with five more region games on the docket. Callaway will travel to take on Rutland on Tuesday for another important region clash.
