LaGrange College will host receptions for its exhibitions “Crafting Collections,” “Spectrum of Perception” and “A Maine Event: Lamar Dodd at Monhegan” on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m., at Lamar Dodd Art Center.
On the main floor, “Crafting Collections,” co-curated by retired LaGrange College art and design professor Tim Taunton and LaGrange College art and design associate professor Austin Wieland, includes works from 20th century and contemporary ceramics artists Linda Arbuckle, Ron Meyers, Nan Smith, Jim Connell, Joe Bova, Linda Cordell, Susan Filley and Lee Rexrode. The exhibition will run through Dec. 10.
In the upstairs gallery, there are four collections currently on display.
Curator Robby Toles, LaGrange College art and design assistant professor, features work in his “Spectrum of Perception” exhibition that display an ebb and flow between abstract and representational subject matter, and together display a changing of seasons.
“From the Lecture: Modern & Contemporary Art” displays work from Ansel Adams, Pablo Picasso, Sally Mann, Elaine and Willem de Kooning, Salvador Dali and Henri Moore. This collection is in concert with Wieland’s modern and contemporary art history course.
“A Maine Event: Lamar Dodd at Monhegan,” curated by LaGrange College alumna Alexis Westrick and designed by Art & Design student Hannah Edwards, gives spectators the opportunity to view works inspired by Lamar Dodd’s visits to Monhegan Island in Maine.
Edwards also curated the current exhibition “Solitary Strength,” which includes art pieces that reflect a sense of self-reliance and facing fears.
While classes are in session, people can visit the center Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will also be open on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the college’s homecoming weekend.
