The Callaway football team went on the road to Westside (Macon) on Thursday for their region opener and meant business, trumping the Seminoles 34-14.

Westside won the coin toss and elected to receive only for the Cavaliers to block a punt, setting up the team at the 9-yard line. The Cavaliers would quickly find the end zone with senior running back Tyren Buggs getting the honors. 

The Callaway special teams would come through once again later in the first, blocking a Seminole field goal attempt. The offense would turn that into seven points and a 13-0 lead when Blake Harrington threw a screen pass to Buggs that he took 50 yards into the end zone.

The Seminoles would make it a game in the second quarter, scoring their first touchdown with 10:46 left in the first half to cut the Callaway lead to just six points.

Westside would strike again just before the half to take a 14-13 lead into the break.

The Cavaliers came out of the other side of the break firing on all cylinders, take a 19-14 lead when Harrington hit an open Bryceton Sanders for a 50-yard touchdown. 

The Callaway special teams continued to have themselves a day in the second half as Xae Anderson blocked and returned a punt for a touchdown to put Callaway up 26-14 with four minutes to go in the third quarter.

The final 12 minutes and chance would be the Jeremiah Dunn show. The junior intercepted a pass to close the third quarter and then got an interception return for touchdown with 7:24 left on the clock that all but iced the game.

Callaway is now 4-2 overall and 1-0 in region play. The Cavaliers will return to action next week on the road to Rutland.
