The Hogan House at Rose Hill in Hogansville is reopening with a new vision. The bed and breakfast has long been a proud part of the history of Hogansville, but one couple is hoping it can be something more.
On Saturday, dozens gathered at the Hogan House to cut the ribbon on the new Intermission Hogan House Bed and Breakfast.
The renamed B&B has been leased by Shanna and Brandon Christensen and will still operate as a Bed and Breakfast, but the couple plans to make it much more than just a B&B.
The Christensens are planning on running the Hogan House as part B&B, part ministry, with the goal of helping women in crisis.
Brandon said they had been thinking of moving to and starting a ministry in Hogansville for some time.
“We are thrilled to be a part of this community. We moved in November. We fell in love with Hogansville before we ever moved here. You have welcomed us with open arms. You have been prayer warriors. You have loved on us, you’ve supported us, you’ve encouraged us,” Brandon said. “We moved here from Newnan, and we moved here because God told us to, and God told us to move here to start a ministry for women.”
Shanna said they were inspired to start the ministry because of women in their church.
“We had three women in our church, in our local community, who had lost spouses and became single moms and widows overnight. I just realized it kind of hit me. I couldn’t imagine having kids on my own. What it would mean to have every bedtime, every bath time, every meal time, every sick day, to have that on your shoulders and your shoulders alone. God really started stirring in my heart that these women just need a place to get away and breathe,” Shanna said.
“We knew of Hogansville, and we thought this might be the perfect place, so we came down and visited. We actually stayed here in the Hogan House and prayed over the town and decided, yeah, this was it. So we sold our house in Newnan, and we found a house here and just decided we were going to do something not real big, and God had plans for something a lot bigger,” she said.
Intermission Hogan House will be a regular Bed and Breakfast, open to anyone to come and stay with the full B&B experience. It will also be a place where women can come funded through the ministry so that they don’t have to pay to stay.
“We ask people who come and who stay, would they like to pay it forward? Is there a woman in their life that they would like to bless with a few days? Maybe a sister-in-law, a mom, or just someone who needs a few days? Would they like to pay it forward and to allow them to come and stay?” Shanna said.
Shanna said the public will still pay to stay, but they are hoping to fund stays for women in need through the ministry aspect.
“It’s not just for women. It was created for single moms with widows in mind, but it’s not just single moms and widows, anyone is welcome here to come and just breathe,” she said.
“For those that a place is provided for them, there will be gift baskets, gift cards, Bibles, extra. We’re going to go above and beyond for those women who just need a place to breathe for a minute,” Shanna said.
Intermission Hogan House Bed and Breakfast is located at 804 E Main St. in Hogansville.
