Callaway football has found its groove, beating Rutland 41-0 on the road to earn their fifth straight win.

It was a sluggish start for the Cavaliers, but they were able to take a 2-0 lead with 8:16 left in the first quarter as Ant Reeves wrapped up a Rutland ball carrier in the end zone.

Trevon Reeves would later set the Cavaliers up with good field position on a big punt return, taking the ball to the Rutland 20-yard line, but the Callaway offense would give it right back on a high snap over the quarterback’s head.

The Hurricanes would drive down inside the red zone late in the first quarter, looking to take the lead, but a turnover on downs persevered the Callaway lead going into the second quarter.

The Cavaliers would eventually extend their lead when Blake Harrington connected with Breshun Hall on a 6-yard touchdown pass, going up 8-0 with 8:43 left in the first half.

The Cavaliers would break the game open with 2:17 left in the first half as Tyren Buggs ran through a massive hole along the left side of the offensive line for a 20-yard touchdown and a 15-0 lead for the road team. The team’s defense and special teams came through to force a punt and get a return up to midfield which set up a short field and subsequently the touchdown run from the senior running back.

Buggs was not done there in the first half, extending the Callaway lead out to 21 points with a 50-yard rushing touchdown with just 40 seconds on the clock in the second quarter.

The Cavaliers took that momentum into the second half and quickly extended their lead when Hall scored on a short rushing touchdown to put Callaway up 28-0 with 8:57 left in the third quarter. The Cavaliers continued to pour it on with Harrington connected with Jeremiah Dunn on a 23-yard touchdown to put Callaway up by 35 points with under a minute to go in the third quarter. This score triggered a running clock which allowed the traveling Callaway contingent to get home a little bit earlier than expected on the night.

Hall got into the end zone for the third time with just over five minutes left in the game for the final score of the night.

Callaway improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in region play. The Cavaliers will be right back on the road next Friday in a region contest against Pike County.
