CITY OF LAGRANGE, GA. OCTOBER 17th, 2024 – At approximately 8:43 pm on October 16th, the Lagrange Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire at 700 Swanson Street.

The Shift Commander arrived on the scene to find a single-story residence with smoke visible in the roadway from the front of the structure. Engine 5 arrived and was assigned fire attack. Engine 1 was assigned search and rescue and entered the structure through the front door. Engine 4, Truck 32, and Troup County Fire Department Truck 1 arrived on the scene and assisted with suppression activities.

Before fire crews arrived, the occupant was able to get herself and her family out of the structure on her own. On-scene crews quickly brought the fire under control and an investigation was conducted. The value of the property was estimated at $30,000, and damages were estimated at less than $10,000 with minimal content loss. The American Red Cross provided assistance to the residents.

During the investigation, the Shift Commander spoke with the resident, who stated she was preparing to cook when the grease caught fire on the stove eye. No injuries were reported. The area of origin was determined to be the stove cooktop, and the cause was accidental.
