The Callaway football team absolutely annihilated the Pike County Pirates on Friday night, earning a 53-0 region win. This game was a long time coming as Hurricane Helene moved the game from its original date of Oct. 26.

It was a complete three-phase win as the Cavaliers controlled the game from the opening kickoff. The defense forced a quick three-and-out and the offense struck quickly with Blake Harrington hitting Jeremiah Dunn on a 30-yard touchdown pass on the Cavaliers’ first offensive possession of the game.

The second drive was more of the same as Harrington connected with BreShun Hall on a long touchdown pass. 

It was not just the offense that dominated early as the defense forced two interceptions in the first half, one from Keshawn Cameron and the other from Ant Reeves. 

The first interception of the game came with the Cavaliers up 13-0 in the first quarter. This would set up Harrington’s third touchdown pass of the first half as the junior hit Trevon Reeves for a long touchdown.

This was just the beginning as Callaway scored a whopping 40 points in the first half, putting points on the board on its first six possessions of the game. 

Senior running back Tyren Buggs would get the next two touchdowns of the game for the Cavaliers. Harrington would cap off a nearly flawless first half for Callaway as he ran for a touchdown with 2:31 left in the first half, his fourth touchdown overall in the first half as he put the road team up 40 points heading into the break.

A running clock in the second half allowed the Cavalier faithful to make the trek home a little earlier than usual on a Friday night.

Callaway would tack a touchdown in the third quarter as Buggs found the end zone for the third time on the night. 

Callaway scored one last time in the game as Kayden Stargell found the end zone to give Callaway a 50-burger. 

The defense put together back-to-back shutouts  as the team is finding its groove under first-year defensive coordinator Casey Smith. The defense has allowed just 36 points combined in the last five games. 

Callaway has won six games in a row and improved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in region play. The Cavaliers have officially clinched a spot in the 2A state playoffs and will host Jackson for homecoming next Friday.
