The general election on Nov. 5 is right around the corner. While national attention will be on the presidential election, there are multiple local elections that will affect Troup County voters. After a packed primary election in May, multiple candidates are running unopposed during the general election. Here is what is on the ballot:
Local Elections
The Troup County Board of Commissioners has three seats up for election, two of those seats were won in the primaries. Rex Scott of District 3 and Morris Jones of District 4 are unchallenged on Nov. 5 and will be the sole candidates on the ballot. However, District 2 is contested. James “Jaime” Thrailkill (Republican) and Andrew L. Moody Sr. (Democrat) will be vying for the seat.
Many of the local candidates are running unopposed, having won their party nominations and do not have another party’s candidate running against them. As a result, they have won their elections. The unopposed races include:
- James Woodruff for Troup County Sheriff
- Erin Hackley for Troup County Coroner
- Shane Frailey for Troup County Tax Commissioner
- Sandra Heath Taylor for Solicitor General
- Jackie Ward Taylor for Clerk of Superior Court
- Herb Cranford District Attorney Coweta Judicial Circuit
State Elections
In the Georgia House and Senate, there are five elections. All four Troup County State House seats will be decided. For District 136, the Republican incumbent David Jenkins will be challenged by Democrat Jeff Lowe. For District 137, the Democratic incumbent Debbie G. Buckner will take on Republican Stephen Acorn. Vance C. Smith Jr., the Republican incumbent for District 138 will be running unopposed. Finally, District 72 will see the Republican incumbent David Huddleston be challenged by Democrat Rodney Ross Moore.
The State Senate race for District 29 will be between Republican incumbent Randy Robertson and Democratic nominee Ellen T. Wright.
National Elections
Apart from the presidential election, there is another national race that will touch Troup County. The Georgia District 3 seat in the U.S. House of Representatives will be fought between Republican nominee Brian Jack and Democratic nominee Maura Keller.
