LaGrange football saw its six game winning streak snapped by Upson-Lee, falling 18-15 in the regular season finale.
The first half was a real defensive chess match as both punters were called into action regularly.
The Grangers had their chances to take an early lead, but turned the ball over on downs on the Knights’ 10-yard line. LaGrange missed a 29-yard field goal later in the first quarter as the game remained scoreless heading to the second quarter.
The Knights got its first down of the game early in the second quarter. The LaGrange defense did its part with Drek Williams getting a big sack to end a drive in the second quarter.
Spencer Stroud got a massive sack on third down with under a minute to go in the first half to force a 41-yard field goal that the Knights would end up missing. Unfortunately, a roughing the kicker call gave Upson-Lee a do over and the Knights converted to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
The Grangers came out of halftime and had a statement drive, finished off on an 8-yard touchdown run from Denorayon Reid. The Knights answered with an 80-yard touchdown drive and a two-point conversion to go up 11-7.
The Knights would extend their lead to 18-7 after a turnover by the Grangers set Upson-Lee in plus territory.
LaGrange would eventually cut the Knight lead down to one score with a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Malachi Fannin-Render found the end zone and Dylan Barber converted the two-point conversion to make it 18-15.
The Grangers had a chance late, driving near midfield, but turned the ball over on downs with under two minutes left on the clock.
LaGrange finishes the regular season 7-3 overall and 6-2 in region play. The Grangers will finish third in the region and likely saw their chance to host a first round playoff game go out the window on Friday night.
