Come to see the quilts. Stay for the barbecue.

A decades-long annual fall tradition was continued over the weekend with Pleasant Grove Community Church’s Quilter’s Bazaar.

This year marks the 44th year the church has hosted the annual quilting celebration and fundraiser. The Pleasant Grove quilters hold the event each year to promote fellowship within the community and to show off the goods of local crafters and cooks.

The Pleasant Grove quilting group meets on Tuesdays to craft their beautiful works of art. Much of the year is spent on creating the annual bazaar quilt, which is raffled off each year to support the church.

Even with weekly quilting sessions, the annual quilt takes the group months to complete. Carol Cadenhead, who helps organize the bazaar each year, said this year’s quilt took a team of three about 12 weeks to complete.

All proceeds from the bazaar go to help pay for church endeavors, including missionary work.

What started as a simple quilt show has grown into a mini fall festival complete with a plethora of homemade foods to purchase from cakes and pies to Brunswick stew and barbeque, along with canned jams, jellies, pepper sauces and local honey.
