The LaGrange boys basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season in style, beating Columbus 66-51 in the Grangers opening game of the LaGrange Thanksgiving basketball tournament.
The first quarter was extremely competitive with the Grangers capturing a 14-11 lead after the opening eight minutes. LaGrange would then go on to capture a double-digit lead with a huge second quarter and the Blue Devils were never able to cut the Granger lead to single figures.
LaGrange outscored Columbus 16-8 in the second quarter to take an 11-point advantage into the halftime break.
The Grangers came out of halftime firing on all cylinders, taking a 51-33 lead into the fourth and final quarter, allowing head coach Mark Veal to empty the bench in the final eight minutes.
It was once again the Torian Reeves show in the LaGrange gymnasium as he scored a game-high 16 points, all in three quarters as the senior got a rest in the fourth. As per usual, Reeves threw down multiple rim-rattling dunks that caused the gymnasium to bounce up and down with enthusiasm.
BJ Wortham finished second on the team with 13 points. After a quiet first quarter with no points, the senior took over alongside Reeves to lead the Grangers to victory.
Javon Nelson also put together a good offensive showing, finishing with 10 points.
LaGrange is now 3-1 on the young season. The Grangers will look to keep the good times rolling on Tuesday as they host McIntosh in the final game of the team’s Thanksgiving tournament.
