The City of LaGrange honored LaGrange Employee Lamar Lester for his 25 years of dedicated service at the recent City Council meeting.
Lester is currently the Traffic Control Supervisor for the City of LaGrange Sign Shop, where he oversees the installation, maintenance, and repair of all traffic control devices throughout the City. His career began on October 28, 1999 and has been an essential part of ensuring the safety and efficiency of LaGrange’s roadways for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. His extensive knowledge of traffic systems and his dedication to maintaining high standards of safety and functionality have made him a highly respected figure within the Public Works Department.
Lester began his career with the City of LaGrange in the Street Department as a Public Service Assistant (PSA), where his duties included pouring sidewalks across the City. His strong work ethic and commitment to quality led to advancement, moving from Senior PSA to Advanced PSA, where he took on leadership of a crew managing a variety of street and sidewalk projects. Additionally, he worked as a milling machine operator, preparing streets for resurfacing projects. This hands-on experience laid the foundation for his transition into the role of Traffic Control Supervisor, where he has made a significant impact in traffic control systems.
In his current role, Lester manages the City’s traffic control devices, ensuring their proper installation, maintenance, and repair in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. He also utilizes the advanced Sign Lab computer program to design and manage traffic signs and roadway markings, contributing to safer and more efficient traffic flow. His leadership in the Sign Shop has been instrumental in improving LaGrange’s traffic infrastructure and enhancing public safety on the roads.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Lester enjoys a fulfilling personal life. He is happily married to his wife, Tracy, and they are proud parents to two children and four grandchildren, who bring great joy to his life. He is passionate about outdoor activities, particularly fishing and hunting, which allow him to unwind and enjoy time in nature. As he nears the end of his career, he is committed to passing on his extensive knowledge and experience to the next generation of Public Works employees, ensuring the continued success and safety of LaGrange’s infrastructure for years to come.
