George Sampson III, 84, of Newnan, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2024, with his loving wife by his side.
George was born on July 27, 1940 in Atlanta to the late George Sampson Jr. and Sarah Horton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Sampson of Oregon and his sister, Sally Martin of Newnan.
George grew up in LaGrange and graduated from LaGrange High School. He then attended GA Tech and graduated in 1965 with a degree in mechanical engineering. Upon graduation, he joined the Naval Reserves for two years and worked as an aircraft mechanic. He then began working as an engineer while also pursuing his love of British Sports Cars and eventually opened his own car restoration business (EuroCar Care) in LaGrange. Some of his cars were featured in various car shows around the area.
In addition to his love for cars, George loved spending time at the beach, particularly Panama City Beach. He developed a strong passion for beach music and became quite the dancer. He and his wife spent their free time dancing the shag and listening to doo-wop and rhythm and blues.
George loved being around people and never met a stranger. He could talk to anybody about anything. Everywhere he went, he seemed to find someone that he knew. As a Christian, George believed in helping others. He was generous and always ready to lend a hand. For those who knew George well, there was never a dull moment. His sense of humor and funny antics kept everyone laughing, even up to his passing.
George leaves behind a large circle of loved ones including his wife, JoAnne Sampson of Newnan; his sister, Miriam Tillman of Surrency; his daughter, Laura Tyrer of LaGrange; his sons, Alan Sampson of South Carolina and Chris Sampson of LaGrange; stepdaughters, Stacey Schwartz (Todd) of Newnan and Kelley DeMuth (Mark) of Peachtree City.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rachel Tyrer, Luke Tyrer, Brianna Gable, Conner Schwartz, Landon Schwartz, Ryan Schwartz, Justin Schwartz, Sophia DeMuth, Elijah DeMuth, Gavin DeMuth and multiple nieces and nephews.
