The Troup boys basketball team kept up its hot start to the 2024-25 season on Saturday, beating Heard County 70-45 at home.

Troup blitzed the Braves early and took a 28-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers scored the opening nine points in the game and captured their first double-digit lead at the 5:03 mark in the first quarter as Gavin Gates connected on a 3-pointer to put Troup up 12-2.

The Tigers never looked back from there and took a 39-20 lead into the halftime break.

The lead continues to balloon for Troup in the second half. The Tigers led 66-33 after three quarters after outscoring 27-13 in the third period.

The fourth quarter was shortened to six minutes and Troup was able to let its foot off the gas with the game well in hand. Troup was outscored 12-4 in the fourth as their JV players got some varsity minutes.

Troup coach Vacher Hammett went deep into his bench on Saturday and saw 12 of his players end up in the scoring column.

It was a balanced attack with Jalen Brown and Dee Moreland leading the Tigers in scoring with 13 points apiece. DeJaylen Campbell finished with 11 points, nine of which came in the first quarter of play.

Troup improved to 6-1 and has now won two straight after dropping the first game of the season earlier this week by just one point. The Tigers will host Trinity Christian next Tuesday for a region matchup. Troup is currently 2-1 in region play.
