Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The Troup girls basketball team had to dig deep on Tuesday to pull out a sixth win in a row. The Tigers toppled Trinity Christian 62-45 at home on Tuesday night to stay undefeated in region play.

The final score was not indicative of just how competitive the game was before the Tigers blew the game open in the fourth quarter.

The Troup offense struggled to get going, scoring just eight points in the first quarter and subsequently trailing by three points after the opening eight minutes of play. Sheniyah Philpot scored six of the team’s eight points as the players around her struggled offensively at the start.

The Troup offense began to show signs of life in the second half, but the Tigers settled for a 31-30 deficit at halftime.

As they have all season, the Tigers relied on their dynamic duo of Raygen Godfrey and Philpot on Tuesday. The duo rallied the troops in the second half and led the Tigers to an important region win.

Godfrey led all scorers with 22 points. Her play in the third quarter helped the Tigers capture the lead and hold it. She connected on all nine of her free throw attempts in the quarter and finished with 13 points in the frame. She single-handedly outscored the Lions in the quarter before passing the baton to Philpot for the final quarter.

It was the Philpot show to close the game once again for Troup as the junior guard finished with nine points in the fourth quarter. Philpot scored 18 points in total on the night to continue her hot streak as of late.

The only blemish on the night for Philpot was her four of eight showing from the charity stripe.

Jaz Williams had a quiet game for the first three quarters, scoring just two points, but the senior came on strong in the fourth with six points to help the Tigers extend the rally.

Troup improved to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in region play. The Tigers will return to the court on Thursday at home against Upson-Lee for another important region matchup.
