The LaGrange boys basketball team came out on top of a low-scoring battle with Mary Persons on Friday night. The Grangers would use a fourth-quarter surge to prevail 40-28.

Both offenses got off to a slow start with the Grangers grabbing a narrow 10-9 lead after the opening quarter. The second quarter featured even less offense as LaGrange stretched its lead out to 17-14 at halftime.

The third quarter was another slugfest on defense with LaGrange taking a 25-23 lead to the fourth.

The Grangers offense would eventually awaken in the fourth quarter, scoring 15 points over the final eight minutes of the game.

LaGrange would outscore the Bulldogs by 10 points in the final frame which made the final minutes a bit more comfortable than the opening three quarters would have suggested.

With offense at a premium it was Jamarcus Pope that led the way for the LaGrange offense, scoring eight points. BJ Wortham and Javon Nelson finished with six points apiece.

LaGrange improved to 12-7 overall and 6-4 in region play. The Grangers will host rival Troup in what should be a packed house on Saturday evening. The Tigers won the first encounter between these two teams this season by a margin of 60-45.
