The Troup girls basketball team flexed their muscles on Saturday, beating rival LaGrange for the second time this season. The Tigers would ride a second-half surge to a 71-39 victory in LaGrange’s house.

The early goings would be a game of runs. Mia Wortham would start the game on a personal 5-0 run to give Troup the early advantage.

LaGrange would answer right back with six points to take its first and only lead of the game. The Tigers would recapture the lead before the end of the first quarter with Makayla Reed scoring the final four points of the quarter to give the Tigers a 9-8 lead heading to the second.

Reed would cap off a personal 7-0 run to start the second when she banged in her second 3-pointer of the contest.

Reed, just a freshman, is coming into her own in event games and finished with 18 points in hostile territory on Saturday.

Troup would have issues with technical fouls in the second quarter as LaGrange hung in the game. The Tiger lead would sit at just five points (25-20) heading into halftime.

Peyton Swint kept the Grangers afloat in the first half, scoring all 12 of her points in the opening two quarters of the game.

The Tigers came out of halftime on fire, outscoring the Grangers 26-10 in the third to take a commanding 21-point lead to the fourth quarter, where they would close out the game in style. Whatever coach Carla Thornton told the Tigers at halftime clearly worked to their advantage.

What an effort it was from Raygen Godfrey in the second half. The senior was held scoreless in the first half, but then proceeded to drop 21 points over the final two quarters.

Sheniyah Philpot and Wortham would also score in double figures for Troup with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Madisyn Booker would finish second on LaGrange in scoring with nine points.

Troup improved to 13-5 on the season and 9-2 in region play. The Tigers will look to make it four wins in a row on Tuesday at home against region foe Spalding. Troup won the first meeting between the two teams 58-37 back on Dec. 13.

LaGrange could not build on its win on Friday night and fell to 5-14 overall and 2-9 in the region. The Grangers will return to action next Tuesday as they play host to Fayette County, who won the earlier season matchup 73-20.
