Sweet, sweet revenge. The LaGrange boys basketball team would avenge its loss to rival Troup earlier in the season by beating the Tigers 63-60 in an overtime thriller.

The Grangers would rely on some clutch free throw shooting in overtime to get the win. Down 60-59, Torian Reeves would go to the line and sink a pair of free throws to give LaGrange the lead back with 47.7 seconds left.

A turnover would give the Grangers the ball back and Brennan Connell would rise to the challenge, connected on two free throws to give the home team a 63-60 lead with 12.9 left on the clock.

A DeJaylen Campbell heave at the buzzer would fall short as the Grangers reeled away in celebration.

Connell was a man on a mission all night and led the home side in scoring with 18 points.

The first quarter was dominated by the LaGrange defense. Both offenses struggled to get going until Avion Davis finally broke the scoreless deadlock with a pair of free throws after over two minutes went off the clock.

While the Granger offense was a bit erratic to start, the defense was on point which allowed the team to take a 12-5 lead after the opening quarter.

Troup would answer the bell in the second quarter, scoring seven straight points to take a 13-12 lead. The Grangers would answer with a 6-0 run and would not relinquish the lead again in the first half, taking a 26-20 advantage into halftime.

The Grangers would come out swinging in the third quarter and eventually took the first double-digit lead of the game (34-23) halfway through the frame.

Troup would not go away quietly, trimming the LaGrange lead down to just four points (38-34) heading to the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter would prove back-and-forth until the game got tied up at 56. After that, both teams would go scoreless over the final 2:20.

Davis would score 15 points and Reeves would finish with 12 for the Grangers.

Despite being on the wrong side of a losing effort, Dee Moreland gave it all for the Tigers on the night. The junior scored a game-high 26 points, including all four of Troup’s points in overtime. Jalen Brown and Gavin Gates also scored in double figures, finishing with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Troup fell to 11-6 overall and 5-6 in the region. The Tigers will look to get back on track on Tuesday when they host Spalding for a region matchup.

LaGrange improved to 13-7 overall and 7-4 in region play. The Grangers will look to make it three wins in a row next Tuesday when reigning region champion Fayette County comes to town.
