The LaGrange Academy boys basketball bounced back from their first loss since Dec. 6 by earning a narrow 69-63 win over rival St. George’s on Friday night.
With the game in the balance late the Warriors relied on the ever-steady hand of Alex Jarvholm. The junior was electric in the fourth quarter, scoring nine of his 31 points in the period to ensure the Warriors walked away victoriously.
In fact, most of Jarvholm’s damage came in the second half as he finished with 20 points in the final two quarters.
It looked like the Warriors would run away with the game early, taking a 25-8 lead after the first quarter. LaGrange Academy hit an offensive slump in the second, scoring just seven points which allowed St. George’s to close the gap.
St. George’s offense truly sparked to life in the third quarter, scoring 24 points to cut the LaGrange Academy lead to 53-40 heading to the fourth.
The lead slipped down to as few as just one point in the fourth quarter, but the Warriors found just enough winning plays to prevail.
Jarvholm’s late-game heroics were essential, but the offensive play of Andrew Knight and Kayde Bradfield was also key. The former scored 14 and the latter 22 to help lead the charge. The only other Warrior in the scoring column besides their terrific trio was Owen Sells with two points.
LaGrange Academy improved to 12-5 overall and 3-1 in the region. The Warriors will be back on the road for their next contest, traveling to take on St. Mary’s next Tuesday.
