HOGANSVILLE — The splash pad at Strozier Park is expected to be complete Aug. 1, city officials said Monday.

City Council discussed the construction efforts of the splash pad at its Monday meeting.

“I spoke with Stan Walsh from Aqua Dynamics, and he anticipates a completion date of Aug. 1,” said City Manager James Woods. “A lot of the water features have been installed.”

Woods planned to meet today with Don Howell, director of Troup County Parks and Recreation, and discuss where construction crews should place auxiliary equipment such as benches and grills.

City staff members will be meeting with workers from Aqua Dynamics in the coming days to bring in underground electric cables to power the facility, as well as installing sewer equipment.

Mayor Bill Stankiewicz hoped that the park would be open for use before the end of summer.

“I hope we are able to have it open very soon,” Stankiewicz said. “Kids will be going back to school in a few weeks, and they won’t have much time to enjoy the park after that unless something is done to adjust the hours of operation.

Woods hoped hours of operation could be modified for the remainder of the summer to accommodate children who wish to play in the park after school hours.

“I’m going to talk to Don tomorrow, since we’re coming into this right before school starts, and see if they will shift their hours so that the facility will be open in the afternoon and late evening,” said Woods. “We’ll have daylight up until 8 o’clock or later into September and October.”

The city has placed covered patios next to the splash pad for parents to sit and watch their children as they play. Woods said that the site will have grills for residents to host cookouts at the park, and that it should be something many people in the city will enjoy.

“I think it’s going to be a great facility once we get it open,” said Woods. “They don’t anticipate to run into any more weather delays.”
