Young girls shine as princesses during workshop

LaGRANGE- The cafeteria at LaGrange High School was roaming with little princesses on Saturday afternoon.
LaGrange High School’s student group FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) hosted their 2nd Annual Princess Workshop, with the theme focusing on Winter Wonderland and Princesses. The workshop was meant for girls ages 4-12 to make them feel like real princesses and have them enjoy a day of princess-related activities.
With the LaGrange High School cafeteria decorated in white, purple and pink balloons and pictures of Disney princesses like Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine from Aladdin and Elsa from Frozen hanging around, the girls were definitely engaged.
There was plenty of activities for the girls to participate in, including getting their makeup done, getting their nails painted, arts and crafts, Disney songs, dancing, dressing up in princess outfits, hair being done and non-stop picture-taking.
Many of the girls were dressed in pink and purple dresses while wearing tiaras and holding a magic wand and were having a blast.
“We want to impact the youth, uplift them and let them know there able to do anything they want,” said Alexis Williams, a teacher at LaGrange High School and the sponsor for the FCCLA. “We want the girls to not only look good on the outside but feel good on the inside as well.”
Parents and high school students that were involved in the FCCLA helped organize the event as well as decorating and served pizza, drinks and other snacks to the group of girls.
Veneka Cameron, a LaGrange native currently living in Atlanta was the guest speaker at the princess workshop. She talked to the girls about maintaining a positive attitude every day, doing what makes you happy, motivation and stressed the importance of self-esteem.
“I just wanted to let them know that whoever your around, make sure you show positive energy and have a positive attitude,” said Cameron. “The main message I wanted to get across to them is find the good in every situation. Even if it’s a bad situation, there is some good there. An event like this is good because it gives these girls a chance to have fun with each other and fellowship.”
