LaGRANGE- Citing safety concerns, 10 light poles and 20 lights will be installed in the parking lot of Callaway High School.

“We’ll be putting poles and lights down near the soccer and baseball fields in the back of the school,” said Assistant Superintendent and Vice President of Operations John Radcliffe.

Radcliffe said there has been a demand from residents attending school functions for the school to acquire new poles and lights, due to concern when people leave athletic events at night.

“For several years now the parents and folks in the community have asked us to consider putting lights down in that area and we were able to do that with some SPLOST dollars, so that’s why we’re putting the lights there,” said Radcliffe.

The Troup County School System has put in an order to have the 10 poles and 20 lights be installed in the parking lot of Callaway High School during its upcoming HVAC renovations.

Morpower Electric, LLC, an electric company in LaGrange, will be installing the new poles and lights. The total amount for the project to be completed is $35,000.

The HVAC project will involve a complete takeout and reinstall the system that is currently in place near the soccer and baseball fields.

Torrance Construction is the general contractor for the Callaway High School, with the contract sum being $4,766,807. Funding will also come from the Georgia Department of Education Capital Outlay Funds and SPLOST.
