A regional representative for Direct Auto Insurance in LaGrange told police Wednesday she believes a former employee stole more than $1,000 from the business.

According to a report, the employee was supposed to make a deposit containing hundreds of dollars in cash plus customer’s checks made out to the company. The representative told officers the deposit was never made, the employee claims she never took the deposit, quit her job and has now disappeared.

The business said the full deposit of $1,723.50 was still missing.

Police are investigating.

Teen arrested on pot charge

A roadside safety check landed one teen behind bars early this morning after an LPD officer found suspected marijuana in his SUV.

The teen was stopped around 1 a.m. at East Render Street and Lafayette Parkway by police for having no tag on his truck. The officer said when the driver rolled down his window, he immediately smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle.

According to the report, when the officer asked the teen if there was any pot in the car, he promptly handed him a small, clear plastic baggy containing a green, leafy substance and told him there was more in the center console.

A larger bag was located inside the truck, the officer stated. The teen was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.

Man dies while at gym

A man exercising at Towne Fitness Club at 124C Main St. fell ill and and became unresponsive around 7:30 Wednesday night, according to LaGrange police.

The 46 year old was transported to West Georgia Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.

LaGrange Police Department Lt. Dale Strickland said an autopsy was scheduled this morning in the GBI crime lab. No foul play is suspected, but it is standard for police to investigate when a person dies unexpectedly.

Stolen car

A man woke up Wednesday morning to discover his 2012 Kia Forte stolen from his driveway. The man told police the car was in front of his home in the 200 block of Addie Street as of 10 p.m. Tuesday. Police canvassed the area and put out a be-on-the-lookout, or BOLO, call for the vehicle.

Damage to power box

AT&T and LPD officials are hoping to find those responsible for attempting to rip out wires of an AT&T power supply box at the intersection of River Street and Mariner Lane in the River Mill subdivision.

An AT&T employee said an alarm on the box went off around 3 p.m. Wednesday. When he arrived, he told police he noticed the box appeared to have been pried open and someone tried to tear the wires out.

According to the report the total damage to the box, plus repairs is near $3,000.
