A new tenant who recently rented a home in the 400 block of Alford Street reported to the landlord that the air-conditioning was not working.

An employee of the landlord arrived to learn the entire unit had been stolen and reported it to police around 8 a.m. Thursday. The employee said the tenants just recently moved in and the AC unit was there at the end of July.

In another case, another AC unit was reported stolen from a vacant home located in the 300 block of Hickory Terrace. An employee with a realty company who watches over the house called LaGrange police around 11:15 a.m. when she noticed the unit was gone.

Both AC units were valued at $2,000.

Business burglarized

Someone broke into an unnamed business at 900 Hamilton Road, but the only thing they stole was five cans of chewing tobacco, according to an employee.

LPD officers responded to the store’s alarm around 1:45 Thursday morning and made contact with the employee. He told police someone cut the lock on the front door and removed an iron rod that was laying across the back door.

The employee said he found an empty candy container on the ground and cigarillo packages strewn on the floor, but the only items missing were the chewing tobacco containers.

Police were investigating.

Thieves break in to home

One man returned home Thursday morning to find most of his electronics had been stolen from his home in the 1000 block of Park Avenue.

The victim told police he believed the burglars shoved an AC unit aside, scaling a wall and crawling through a window.

He said the thieves took a 55-inch flat-screen Samsung TV, a 42-inch flat-screen Element TV, PlayStation 4 with controllers, four PlayStation 4 games and an iPad. The total value was estimated at $2,140.
