LAGRANGE – It’s a matchup of the region titans.

On Friday, LaGrange will host Chapel Hill in a showdown featuring a pair of unbeaten teams in Region 5-AAAA.

If LaGrange wins, it would sew up the region championship.

On Wednesday afternoon, LaGrange maintained its perfect region record with an 8-0 victory over the rival Troup Lady Tigers.

The win also wrapped up the county championship for LaGrange, which beat Callaway 8-1 on Feb. 22.

Now, LaGrange’s players turn their attention toward Friday’s critical game that has so much riding on it.

“We look forward to this game (against Troup) every year, but we really just wanted to work on our game to get ready for Friday,” said senior Maddie Patton, who scored three goals.

It’ll be a big-time challenge.

Chapel Hill is not only unbeaten in the region, but it hasn’t dropped a game of any kind and is 12-0 overall.

Chapel Hill has outscored its 12 opponents by a combined score of 91-12.

LaGrange is also playing a high level, though.

The Lady Grangers have won seven in a row, and they’ve scored 48 goals during that stretch while allowing just three goals.

“I think it’ll be a good match,” LaGrange coach Andy Fritchley said. “Chapel Hill is very good. We know they’re good. We know we’ll have to bring our A game.”

In Wednesday’s game, Patton enjoyed a big offensive day as she notched the hat trick with three goals.

Maggie Asbell added two goals and two assists, and Abby Mazzolini, Caroline Thompson and Eva Hutton each had a goal.

“I think we played as a team today,” Patton said. “We had really good passes, and we kept the ball.”

Troup, which beat Cedartown earlier in the week for its first region victory, will look be on the road against Central-Carroll on Friday.
