William (Bill) Surridge Newman

William (Bill) Surridge Newman, 80, of LaGrange, GA passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center.
Bill was born January 16, 1937 in LaGrange, GA to the late James Rufus Newman and Flossie Agnus Gardner Newman. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange and the LaGrange Amateur Radio Club. Bill faithfully served his country in the United States Marines and was a member of the Marine Corp League. He was the owner and operator of the family business, Newman Construction Company and had been very active with the Red Cross. Bill was currently employed with the City of LaGrange as a Building Official. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Harris Newman; two brothers, James Gardner Newman and John Rufus Newman.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Leown Newman; sons, William Michael Newman, Donald Surridge Newman, and Ralph Edward Newman; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be 3:00pm Tuesday, April 25, 2017 in Shadowlawn Cemetery with Dr. Harry Barrow officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange in memory of William (Bill) Newman. The family will gather at his home, 1017 Peninsula Dr. LaGrange, GA
