LaGRANGE — The Friends of LaGrange Memorial Library group is gearing up for a new year of speakers for its Author Talk series.

The slate of Georgia writers include first-time novelists and award-winners, focusing on author-illustrators of children’s books and young adult graphic novels. Six speakers are winners of the 2015 Georgia Author of the Year award.

Speakers Michael Bishop, an award-winning science fiction writer and humanitarian, and novelist Terry Kay have local connections and ties to LaGrange College.

The talks will be held 6:30 p.m. in the Fackler Room of LaGrange Memorial Library, 115 Alford St., on the following dates:

• Sept. 8: Chris Rumble, LaGrange College graduate and author and illustrator of graphic novels.

• Oct. 13: Michael K. Brown, president of Atlanta Writer’s Club and 2015 Georgia Author of the Year award-winner in literary fiction.

• Nov. 10, Anya Krugovoy Silver, a Mercer University professor, poet and scholar; and 2015 Georgia Author of the Year award-winner for poetry.

• Dec. 7: Charmain Z. Brackett, an Augusta author of children’s books and young adult mysteries, and 2015 Georgia Author of the Year award-winner for children’s books.

• Jan. 26: David Darracott, a Cummings writer, editor, university lecturer and corporate communications professional. He is also a Georgia Author of the Year award-winner in detective/mystery.

• Feb. 16: Michael Bishop, a Pine Mountain writer and retired LaGrange College writer in residence, and award-winning science fiction author and poet.

• March 8: Debra Bowling, an Atlanta writer and photographer, and 2015 Georgia Author of the Year award-winner for first novel.

• April 12: Terry Kay, an internationally acclaimed Athens novelist and journalist, and keynote speaker for the annual Friends meeting.

• May 3, Jameson Gregg, a former Saint Simons real-estate and business attorney, humorist and comic fiction writer. He is also a Georgia Author of the Year award-winner in humor.

The Author Talk events are free and open to the public. Writers will be available following each program for questions and will autograph copies of their books.
