The events in Houston, Texas and the surrounding area this week have been shocking, devastating and eye-opening. Hurricane Harvey has been called a once-in-a-thousand year natural disaster, and has left tens of thousands of people displaced and homeless.

The environmental, economical, mental and physical toll this will take on the people of Texas and the surrounding area will be felt for years to come.

The immediate response from across the country has been incredible. Hordes of individuals from surrounding states and beyond have traveled into the Houston area, dropping work and other personal responsibilities, to help those in need. While the devastation to the area has been horrific, the response should swell Americans with pride.

LaGrange residents are also doing their part to help our Texas counterparts. Multiple fundraisers are currently underway. Jackson Heating and Air, Faith Baptist Church and the Troup County Sherriff’s Office are all accepting donations now or in the near future.

There is much more to be said in response to this disaster relief effort. For the moment, however, actions need to speak louder than words. This community has responded with action, and will continue to do so. Please continue to give to those in need.
