The 2017 Hummingbird Festival poster artist was announced Monday night during the Hogansville City Council meeting.
Trent Cannon was chosen by a committee as the winning artist for his painting of a hummingbird and two flowers.
“He told me about [the poster contest] and she encouraged me to do it,” Cannon said pointing to Todd Pike, the chairman of the Hummingbird Festival, and his wife Audrey. “I just didn’t want to get laughed at.”
Cannon won’t have to worry about that.
The Newnan native and former Hogansville High School student has only been painting for a couple of years. Although he’d never painted a hummingbird before, Cannon enjoys drawing animals, mountains and landscapes.
“He’s great at painting roosters,” Pike said.
The winning painting is full of green and purple, along with a ruby throated hummingbird and bright white flowers.
The original framed painting will hang in City Hall downtown, along with the works of other previous festival artists.
Cannon’s painting is being used will be used for the festival T-shirt, poster and guidebook.
T-shirts will be available for sale in the early fall.
