Cavaliers remain second in state

HOGANSVILLE – On the heels of an impressive road win over Upson-Lee, the Cavaliers remained second in this week’s Georgia Sports Writers Association Class AA poll.
Benedictine, which won the Class AA state title a year ago, continues to hold down the top spot.
Screven County is third in Class AA, and Hapeville Charter and Rabun County round out the top five.
Heard County, which will play Callaway on Oct. 13 in a game that could determine the Region 5-AA championship, is ninth in Class AA.
In Class AAAA, the unbeaten Troup Tigers received votes, but they’ve yet to crack the top 10.
Three of Troup’s upcoming opponents in Region 5-AAAA play are in the top 10.
Cartersville, which has won two straight state titles, is first in Class AAAA, and Sandy Creek and Cedartown are ranked eighth and 10th, respectively.
