LAGRANGE – If the plan comes together, the LaGrange Academy softball team will have some more home games to play.

LaGrange Academy and Flint River finished the regular season tied for second in GISA Region 1-AA, and those two teams will meet in a one-game playoff on Monday to determine who will be the second seed for the state playoffs.

That’s critical because the top two teams in a region will host a state-playoff series, while the third and fourth seeds will be on the road.

LaGrange Academy split its two regular-season games with Flint River.

LaGrange Academy won 8-5 on the road on Sept. 21, and Flint River returned the favor last week with a 13-5 victory last week.

The win at Flint River was big for LaGrange Academy, since it had been a number of years since it had beaten its rival.

“We played tremendous over at Flint River,” LaGrange Academy coach Charles Parker said.

In the rematch, LaGrange Academy surged to a 1-0 lead, but Flint River used a big inning to surge ahead.

“We made a couple of mistakes, and they scored eight runs just like that,” Parker said.

Following the Flint River game, Parker said he led the players through an intense practice on Wednesday, and LaGrange Academy responded with a 10-0 victory over Griffin Christian on Thursday.

LaGrange Academy finished the regular season with a game at Twiggs Academy on Friday.

Against Griffin Christian, LaGrange Academy scored two runs in the first inning before breaking it open with six runs in the bottom of the second.

LaGrange Academy capped the scoring with two runs in the third inning.

Amber Corley had a big day for the Lady Warriors with three hits and two RBIs, and she also scored three runs.

Lanie Lackey added two hits with an RBI, and she scored two runs.

Felicity Liechty had a hit, two RBIs and a run scored, and Sara Blair Atkins had two hits.

Reagan Terry, Sydney Anderson, Annika Bienemuller and Molly Olinger each had hits.

Terry, LaGrange Academy’s lone senior, was the starting and winning pitcher, and Corley threw a scoreless fifth inning to finish it.

SOCCER: LaGrange Academy fell to visiting St. George 4-0 on Thursday.

LaGrange Academy will finish the regular season with a home game against Brandon Hall on Tuesday.
