HOGANSVILLE – The Callaway Cavaliers have won two straight region championships, and they can take a big step toward a three-peat this week.
Callaway, which began its Region 5-AA schedule with a win over Lamar County last week, will be on the road against Heard County on Friday.
Callaway and Heard County came into the season as the favorites in the region, and they’ve done nothing so far to alter that outlook.
While Callaway is unbeaten at 6-0, Heard County is 5-1, with its only loss coming to a team from Alabama.
The winner of Friday’s game will not only have a one-game lead in the region, but it will also have the tie-breaker edge.
Callaway, Heard County and Spencer are all 1-0 in the region, while Jordan, Temple and Lamar County are each 0-1.
The top four finishers in the region will qualify for the state playoffs, and the first-place and second-place teams will host a playoff game.
