Callaway teams fall short on road

The Callaway Cavaliers hung tough on the road before falling to Temple 46-39 on Saturday in a Region 5-AA game.

The Cavaliers faced a double-digit deficit through three quarters, and they got within six in the final period before the comeback fell short.

Kobe Jackson led the Cavaliers with 14 points, DQ Wilkerson added nine points, and Antinez Blount scored eight points.

Callaway (1-12 overall) fell to 1-4 in Region 5-AA.

In Saturday’s girls’ game, Callaway (4-10 overall) lost 60-55 to fall to 3-2 in the region.

Leijorey Sanders had a big game for Callaway with 15 points, and she made three 3-pointers.

Kierra Jackson added 10 points, and Qua Beasley and Chyna Cameron scored eight points apiece.

Trailing 33-23, Callaway outscored Temple 20-15 in the third quarter to get within five points, and that was the final margin.

Since opening with three straight region wins, Callaway has lost road games to Spencer and Temple by a combined eight points.

Lamar County and Temple are tied for first place with one loss apiece.

Callaway’s teams will play three region games this week, beginning with Tuesday’s games at Jordan.

Callaway’s teams visit Spencer on Tuesday before hosting host Heard County on Wednesday.

Callaway finishes the week with games at Lamar County on Friday.
