Katherine Elizabeth “Betti” Martin

Mrs. Katherine Elizabeth “Betti” Martin, 78, of LaGrange, Georgia, passed away Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at Emory University Hospital Midtown, Atlanta, Georgia.
Betti was born June 29, 1939, in Washington, D.C., daughter of the late David Spencer Goodson, Jr. and Katherine Embrey Goodson. Betti worked for a congressman on Capitol Hill before marrying Bill. After marriage, she supported her husband through graduate school at Georgia Tech.
Betti had many interests and passions. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange and served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and elder. She served on the Board of the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra and was active in many other organizations in LaGrange including Meals on Wheels. Her real passion was her family.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, William J. (Bill) Martin; her sons Spencer Martin of Athens, Georgia. and Jody (Nancy) Martin of Birmingham, Alabama; her beloved grandchildren, Spencer (Kathleen) Martin, Kinsey Martin, Joe Martin, Elisabeth Martin and William Martin; brothers David (Anita) Goodson and Bill (Denise) Goodson and Sister Nancy (Tom) Lee and numerous nieces and nephews.
The celebration of life memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange with the Rev. Jan Stewart Tolbert, and Dr. Harry Barrow officiating. The gathering of family and friends will be in the church fellowship hall immediately following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests contributions be made to First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange in memory of Mrs. Katherine “Betti” Martin.
