GREENVILLE — Hundreds of city water customers were without water service Thursday evening to Friday afternoon due to a 6-inch water main that broke near state Route 100.

According to Everlene Brooks, city clerk of Greenville, crews had been working to repair the main most of the day and finished with the work Friday afternoon. She said that customers began calling Thursday afternoon to report low water pressure and crews went out and eventually located the break.

Public Works Director Robert Moreland said the water main break affected up to 645 customers, mostly on the north side of town. A bypass of the city’s water tank allowed water to continue flowing to the south side of the city during repairs.

The city issued a boil advisory to residents on the north side of the city, Moreland said.
