A 55-year-old woman was shot during an armed robbery at the Summit Gas station on Upper Big Springs Road Thursday around 11:22 p.m. According to a Troup County Sheriff’s Office news release, an undetermined amount of cash was taken from the store.

A witness told officers that a man dressed in dark clothing and wearing a mask entered the store and jumped the counter. He began demanding money and fired multiple shots inside the store, and one of those struck the victim in the leg.

The suspect allegedly fled on foot, according to the news release.

The victim was airlifted to a Columbus area hospital for her injury.
