DOUGLASVILLE – The LaGrange Grangers reached the halfway point of their region schedule with a hard-earned 5-1 win over Chapel Hill on Tuesday.

It was tied 1-1 when the Grangers scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning, and the Panthers were unable to answer.

The Grangers improved to 4-2 in Region 5-AAAA, and they’re in third place, putting them in great position to compete for one of the region’s four state-playoff spots.

John Morgan pitched a complete game for LaGrange, and he was sharp, limiting Chapel Hill to five hits and one run.

LaGrange took the lead with a run in the third inning, and Chapel Hill tied it in the bottom of the sixth.

Morgan got the seventh-inning rally started with a base hit, and Ben Farrar reached on an error before Charles Crawford was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Cole Freeman was then hit by a pitch to drive in a run and give the Grangers the lead.

Next up was Seth Prather, and with the bases still full, he came through with a three-run double, and LaGrange led 5-1.

Morgan set Chapel Hill down in order in the bottom of the seventh to finish it.

Morgan and Farrar each had two hits, and Prather, Trent Bailey, Wesley Kuhn and Walton Lanier had one hit apiece.

LaGrange begins the second half of its region schedule on Thursday at Cedartown.
