Retired Air Force Master Sargent William Grant Dorsey passed away at home on May 23, 2018. Born Oct. 31, 1939, in Washington D.C. to parents Bryan and Ida Dorsey, he graduated Coral Gables High School and went straight into the service. After spending his entire 20 year career at Eglin Air Force Base, he spent the rest of his working years in the Aerospace Industry in Southern California; before finally retiring first to Pine Mountain, Georgia, and then back to Shalimar, Florida.
Bill or “GPA” as he was known to most, whether “kin” or not had many interests which included: woodworking, collecting guns and coins, fishing, building jigsaw puzzles, gardening, bowling, poker, bingo and rarely did he pass a casino without stopping in to “visit” his money.
Bill was funny, kind, generous to a fault and made an impression on every person he ever met. He loved to play pranks on his friends and since he was born on Halloween, it was his favorite holiday and he believed he was born a warlock.
He was an active member of the Elks Lodge, beginning in LaGrange, Georgia #1084 (where he had been elected exalted ruler 2009-2011) and later transferring to #1795 on Okaloosa Island.
Many people were waiting with open arms for him on the other side, including his wife, Elaine, both of his parents, his brother Bruce, his sister, June, his niece, Christeen and his grandson, Brian.
There were also many four-legged friends eagerly awaiting his arrival including Luke, Bugsy and Duncan.
Still yet, are the many broken hearted left here to mourn his passing: daughter, Kimi; sons, Billy and Robert; son and daughter-in -law, Jeff and April; beloved granddaughter, Jillian; oldest grandson Joseph; and many other grandchildren and great grandchildren. There are also two more four-legged friends left behind that will miss him dearly, Bob and Mick. Above is just a short story of a life well lived, but cut way too short.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at 6 p.m. at The Elks Lodge on Okaloosa Island #1795, and will include an honor guard salute at sunset. In lieu of flowers, his family asks for donations to be made to the Elks Lodge # 1795 at 1335 Miracle Strip Pkwy SE Fort Walton Beach, Florida 32548 or to PAWS at 752 Lovejoy Rd NW Fort Walton Beach, Florida 32548 in his name.
