Two men from Houston, Texas allegedly ran from police on Sunday evening, leading to a pursuit that went across state lines.

At approximately 10:37 p.m., a deputy with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office stopped a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu on Interstate 85 for following too closely and failure to maintain lane. The two men in the vehicle, later identified as Darryl Lacy and Emmanual Tobias, acted nervous, according to a press release from TCSO. The smell of marijuana was also noticeable in the vehicle, according to the press release.

Lacy, the driver, was asked to step out of the vehicle, but instead fled in the vehicle, according to the press release. He led a pursuit over the Alabama state line, where Alabama authorities took the lead. According to the press release, the vehicle’s tires were flattened by a tire deflation device in Alabama, leading to the suspects surrendering.

Four pounds of marijuana were found in the vehicle, according to the press release.

It was determined that Lacy, 28, has multiple felony and misdemeanor warrants through Texas and had a suspended driver’s license. Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Lee County, Alabama Sheriff’s Office Jail where they were charged with trafficking marijuana. Charges were filed in Troup County on Lacy for fleeing/attempting to elude (felony), obstruction of an officer, following too closely, failure to maintain lane and driving while license suspended. A warrant was also obtained for Tobias, 26, for obstruction of an officer for failing to exit the vehicle when ordered.
