The LaGrange Police Department and the Division of Family and Children Services are investigating after a 5-month-old baby was left alone in a car seat for two hours at a house Tuesday. According to a police report, the baby was left at a house on the 100 block of Laurel Ridge Avenue West between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.

According to a police report, the baby’s mother told police the father left the infant at her house and texted her about it at 9 p.m. She said the baby had been with his father because she was running errands. She told police she did not check her phone messages until 10:50 p.m. and then called 911, according to the police report.

The child was found sitting in a car seat in the middle of the living room floor and appeared unharmed. According to the police report, the power was cut off and the thermostat was at 78 degrees.

The woman told police she was moving from the house and that they had agreed to leave the baby at her grandmother’s house. According to the police report, the baby was found with a full diaper.

No arrests have been made yet, according to LPD Sgt. Robert Kirby.

Although the baby was found unharmed, the situation could have ended much differently, according to Kirby.

“An infant in a car seat should never be left unattended,” Kirby said.
