FAYETTEVILLE – The Callaway Cavaliers went on the road and beat a strong Starr’s Mill team 26-6 on Friday night in a preseason game.

In a matchup of teams that went 11-2 last season, it was all Callaway.

The Cavaliers got it done on the ground with Cartavious Bigsby and Charlie Dixon each scoring touchdowns, and they also showed off their big-play ability through the air, with Jacob Freeman connecting with Antinez Blount on a long scoring pass.

Callaway’s defense was up to the challenge as well, keeping Starr’s Mill’s offense out of the end zone.

Callaway also scored on defense, with Antinius Barnes returning a fumble for a touchdown.

Callaway will have two weeks to prepare for its regular-season opener against Opelika on Aug. 24 at Callaway Stadium.

In the Starr’s Mill game, Bigsby scored on a 2-yard run early in the second quarter, and Hunter Williamson made the extra point to give Callaway a 7-0 lead.

A little more than a minute later, Barnes scooped up a fumble and rumbled 46 yards for the touchdown, and Callaway led 13-0.

Starr’s Mill made a field goal to make it a 13-3 game, but Freeman found Blount for a 41-yard touchdown, and Callaway was on top 19-3, which was the score at the half.

Late in the third quarter, Dixon bulled his way into the end zone from one yard out, and Williamson’s extra point gave Callaway a 26-3 lead.

Starr’s Mill capped the scoring with a field goal in the fourth quarter.
