Tough road loss for Troup

Sandy Creek scored five runs in the fourth inning, and that was enough to secure a 5-2 home win over Troup on Thursday.

Senior shortstop Kayla Lane had a big game in the losing effort for Troup with three hits and two runs scored.

Madison McCartney had two hits and a walk, and Skye Loftin had a hit.

Avery Perason was the starting pitcher, and she threw 3 2/3 innings, and gave up four hits and five unearned runs.

Makenzie Miller pitched the final 2 1/3 innings.

Troup took the lead with a run in the first inning, and it remained a 1-0 game until Sandy Creek came to bat in the bottom of the fourth.

Troup (5-13 overall) fell to 2-6 in Region 5-AAAA.

Sandy Creek scored all five of its runs with two outs.

Lane singled and scored on an error in the top of the seventh to complete the scoring.

Also on Thursday, Callaway’s softball team eased to a 14-0 road win over Temple.

Callaway (7-11 overall) evened its Region 5-AA record at 2-2.
