They’re rested and ready to chase their first win.

The LaGrange College Panthers (0-2) were off last week, and they’ll be on the turf of Callaway Stadium today to face Apprentice in their final non-conference game of the season.

LaGrange College begins its USA South schedule on Sept. 29 at North Carolina-Wesleyan.

The Apprentice School Builders, who are making the trip south from Virginia, bring a 1-1 record into today’s game after beating Greensboro and losing to Ferrum.

LaGrange College opened with a 34-28 loss to Birmingham Southern before falling to Berry 34-21 in its home opener.

One of the question marks for the Panthers coming into the season was how the offense would perform following the departure of quarterback Connor Blair, who set numerous school passing records and was a three-year starter.

Fortunately for the Panthers, Kelly Hall has stepped in and played admirably at the position.

Hall, a native of Huntersville, N.C., began his collegiate career at Averett University before transferring to LaGrange College in the offseason.

Hall has been tremendous so far, completing 49-of-65 passes for 603 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions.

In the loss to Berry, Hall completed 33-of-45 passes for 402 yards with two touchdowns.

Marcus Campbell, one of the best wide receivers in LaGrange College history, has been Hall’s favorite target with 15 catches for 158 yards with a touchdown.

Fellow senior Austin Sapp has nine catches for 122 yards with a touchdown, and Tyler Benjamin has caught eight balls for 158 yards with a score.

The Panthers have had a hard time getting their running game going.

Brendon Scott is the Panthers’ leading rusher with 30 yards on nine attempts, and Drew Lewiski and Hall each have a touchdown on the ground.

Junior linebacker Elijah Robertson leads the way defensively with 19 tackles, including 9.5 for loss, and Xavior Coaxum, Parker Lancaster and Austin Wagner each has 10 tackles.

Apprentice gets it done with a strong running game, although quarterback Terrence Sudberry has thrown for 225 yards with four touchdowns.

Brandon Jones leads the rushing attack with 246 yards on 33 attempts with two touchdowns, and Fred Hendrieth has 236 yards on 28 carries with a touchdown.
