On Tuesday, a proposed constitutional amendment will appear on ballots. Proposed Constitutional Amendment 2 states that it will “Create a statewide business court to lower costs, enhance efficiency, and promote predictable judicial outcomes.”

According to Ballotpedia, if someone were to vote yes to this amendment then it means agreeing to amend the Georgia Constitution to establish rules and procedures for judicial selection, term length, and judge qualifications for the court and to establish a state business court. A vote “no” would oppose all of these proposed changes.

The superior and state courts, under the current law, are establishing business courts divisions. This is similar to how there are divisions in the superior court for domestic relations and more.

The question voters should consider is whether they want this power to be with the governor or elected trial court judges.

This second proposed Constitutional Amendment would create a statewide court that is specifically geared toward business.

According to Ballotpedia, the governor will be appointing the business court judges, and the judges will not have to go through a reelection process as regular Georgia judges do.

This may not be a huge presidential election, but it still matters and these amendments will effect Georgia for several years.
