Two men involved an armed robbery in February 2017 entered plea deals in Troup County Superior Court on Dec. 11. According to a press release from the Coweta Judicial Circuit district attorney’s office, Dwon Harris was sentenced to 30 years to serve in prison and Davaris Lindsey was sentenced to 20 years to serve 10 in prison.

According to the press release, Harris and Lindsey participated in an armed robbery on Feb. 11, 2017 at the Lucy Morgan Homes. The victim and his 4-year-old daughter were visiting a friend when Lindsey knocked on an apartment door twice, asking for change for a $20 bill.

When the victim walked outside the apartment, Harris pointed the gun at his head and threatened to kill him and his daughter. According to the press release, Harris took about $40 from the victim before fleeing the scene with Lindsey.

The victim knew Harris and identified him as the gunman after calling 911. The victim was also available to identify Lindsey.

According to the press release, Harris was offered a plea recommendation for 20 to serve 10 years on probation. The night before his trial was set, the state obtained evidence that Harris attempted to get others to intimidate and influence the victim into not testifying in the case. According to the press release, Chief Assistant District Attorney Monique Kirby added another 10 years to Harris’ sentencing recommendation.  Harris pleaded guilty to one count armed robbery, one count possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and one count possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

“Chief Assistant D.A. Monique Kirby handled the case, and rightly increased the sentence to punish this defendant and to send a message to others who would consider trying to undermine the justice system by intimidating and influencing witnesses,” said Herb Cranford, district attorney for the Coweta Judicial Circuit, in an email. “Witness intimidation is a problem we see often and we want criminals to know that the DA’s office of the Coweta Circuit will increase prison time for this behavior.”

Harris’ attorney, Kelly O. Henderson, declined to comment on the plea deal.
