In Tuesday’s edition of The LaGrange Daily News, we wrote about the 2019 Miss Troup County Scholarship Program. The event was held Saturday night at the Troup High Fine Arts Auditorium, and Lyndsay Richardson won Miss Troup County, Jessica Roberts won Miss Troup County’s Outstanding Teen and Charlie Key won Miss LaGrange’s Outstanding Teen.

Richardson will now go on to compete in Miss Georgia in June. Roberts and Key will compete at Miss Georgia Outstanding Teen, which is also in June.

Richardson also received a $1,200 scholarship, and Roberts and Key won a $900 scholarship.

College is expensive, and we’re sure every penny will help all three chase their career goals.

It takes a lot of confidence to participate in a pageant and contestants have to showcase several skills in order to win.

For instance, pageant contestants have to be good at using soft skills, such as interviewing. Before the pageant, the judges hold a private interview with contestants. There’s also an onstage question, which requires the contestants to think quickly on their feet and to answer in front of the audience. It’s not easy to answer a question with so many people watching, especially when you aren’t sure what the question will be.

Winners also give back to the community through their platform. Roberts said on Saturday that her platform was people helping animals and animals helping people, and that she plans on giving back out at the LaGrange Animal Shelter. Mandi Bono, the director of the LaGrange-Troup Humane Society, has said previously that they always needs more regular volunteers.

We want to congratulate Richardson, Roberts and Key on their victories on Saturday and wish them good luck in their upcoming pageants.
