It was a tough day for the Troup Tigers, who couldn’t overcome six errors and eight walks on the way to a 12-2 loss to visiting Auburn High on a frigid Monday evening.

After falling behind 3-0, Troup scored a pair of runs in the first inning to get within one.

The rest of the game belonged to Auburn, though, which won in five innings because of the run rule.

Troup did all of its scoring in the first inning.

Colby Williams led off with a walk, and after a Trace Meadows sacrifice bunt, Cooper Doughman singled to load the bases.

Next up was Caleb McCurry, and Williams scored on his groundout to get the Tigers on the board.

After Colton Webb walked, Cade Garner’s RBI single cut Auburn’s lead to 3-2.

Auburn answered right back with five runs in the top of the second, and it tacked on a single run in the third inning and three more in the fourth to cap the scoring.

Four Troup pitchers appeared in the game, and the most effective one was Tre Mosley, who threw a scoreless top of the fifth.

Daniel Martin and Carson Garner each pitched one inning, and Colton Webb worked two innings.

Nic Owen pitched a five-inning complete game for Auburn.

Luke Purnell had a double for Troup, and Trace Meadows, Cooper Doughman and Cade Garner each had hits.

Ethan Fisher had three hits and an RBI for Auburn, Jake Waters had a hit and two RBIs, and Salter Greene drove in a pair of runs.
