The LaGrange Police Department’s Special Investigation and Crime Suppression units, along with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit jointly served a search warrant at a home in the 200 block of Darden Meadows Drive around 10 p.m. Friday.

While conducting their investigation, Xavier Fernandez Blalock, 29, of Greenville, showed up to the residence, allegedly to deliver one and a half ounces of methamphetamine, according to a police report released by SIU.

Sgt. Mark Cavender, head of SIU, said Blalock tried to run from investigators, but was quickly caught and arrested.

Blalock was charged with trafficking methamphetamine and obstruction of a police officer.

He remained in Troup County Jail this morning.

Traffic stop yields alleged drugs, alcohol

A man with an inoperable headlight found himself in more trouble with police during a traffic stop at the corner of Daniel and Borton streets about 9 p.m. Saturday.

A LaGrange police officer said he smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver after he stopped him and spotted an open bottle of Budweiser beer in a work boot on the floorboard.

The officer performed a field sobriety test, which the officer said the driver failed. The man’s Breathalyzer test showed a 0.112 percent blood alcohol content, according to the report.

The officer checked the driver’s car and found several beer bottle tops and plastic caps from sample-size liquor bottles, the officer stated. He also found a suspected glass smoking pipe under the driver’s seat, allegedly with a rock of crack cocaine in one end.

The driver, identified as Carey Daniel Parker, 37, whose address was unavailable, was charged with DUI, open container, possession of a schedule 2 controlled substance and improperly working headlights.

Thefts

• A homeowner in the 400 block of Colquitt Street told LaGrange police someone stole his black 2007 Hyundai Sonata valued at $3,000. The man contacted police around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, at which time officers told him the car was part of a pursuit by the Georgia State Patrol early Saturday morning.

• An antique .44-caliber Colt pistol was reported stolen out of a home in the 900 block of Callaway Avenue on Friday. The homeowner said the bullets for the gun are no longer made and the weapon has not been shot in more than 50 years.

• A shopper reported accidentally leaving her wallet in a shopping cart on Saturday around 11:30 a.m. at the Walmart on New Franklin Road. She said that later in the day, someone turned the wallet in but stole the $200 inside.

Man gives counterfeit bill to bondsman

A bail bondsman told LaGrange police someone tried to bond their loved one out of jail with a counterfeit $100 bill. The bonding agent said a man came into his office in the 300 block of Commerce Avenue on Friday to pay the $100 bond. The agent gave the customer a receipt and he left.

When the store clerk tested the bill with a marker, she determined the bill was fake, the bondsman reported.

Police are investigating.

Burglaries

• A homeowner living in the 200 block of Rutland Circle told LaGrange police on Friday that someone broke into his residence and stole two Compaq Presario laptop computers, a shoe box that contained at least two car titles and several birth certificates and a book of checks.

• A homeowner in the 200 block of Baugh Street reported on Saturday around 12:30 a.m. that someone kicked in the front door of her home and stole a 50-inch Sanyo TV, a PS3 gaming system and six PS3 video games. The total value of the items was estimated at $960.

• Two people told LaGrange police Saturday that someone broke into their home in the 100 block of Turner Street and took their X-Box gaming system, six X-Box games, a 50-inch Element flat-screen TV and a 47-inch JVC flat-screen TV from their residence. The total value of the items stolen was estimated at about $1,700.
