It was a special senior year for Callaway’s Bryce Kurian.

During the fall, he was a part of a football team that made it to the Class AA semifinals.

A few months later, Kurian was the starting second baseman for the baseball team that also reached the state semifinals.

After having enjoyed such a high level of success as a high-school athlete, Kurian is ready to tackle a new challenge.

Kurian is heading to LaGrange College to join the football program, and he celebrated that milestone during a ceremony at the school this week.

“It feels great,” Kurian said. “We made history already (in high school), and I feel proud to be going to LaGrange, and getting an opportunity to show my talents.”

Kurian will be a wide receiver, and he’ll also be a holder on field goals and extra points.

Kurian is one of four seniors from the 2019 baseball team that will play a sport in college.

Trent Sheppard and Braelin Mitchell will play baseball at LaGrange College, and Drake Wade will play baseball at Southern Union.

“I’m going to try to walk on at LaGrange for baseball, and I’m hoping for the best for everybody,” Kurian said.

Kurian said it was a “great experience” to be a part of two state-semifinal teams.

“I wish we could have gone somewhere we never went before, but being there with my teammates, and being a part of that, it was a great feeling,” Kurian said. “I’m going to miss them.”

Callaway baseball coach Dusty Hubbard is appreciative of what Kurian, Wade, Sheppard and Mitchell did for the program.

“The great success that we’ve had over the past four years, these guys were a big part of what we do,” Hubbard said. “I’m excited for them moving on to the next level. I’m excited they get the opportunity to do that.”
