LaGrange and Hogansville will be filled with music this weekend with performances giving residents something to dance to at Sweetland Amphitheatre, Pure Life Studios and on Main Street in Hogansville.

The Feed & Seed Marching Abominable parading through downtown Hogansville is sure to be one of the major highlights of the weekend, with the well-known Atlanta -based band aiming to draw a crowd. The Feed & Seed Marching Abominable was established in 1974, and it is known for its colorful costumes and high-energy music.

“Music is a universal language that does more than transcend borders,” said Paige McKay Kubik of the Seed & Feed Marching Abominable. “As the most democratic of the arts, it is a language that unites. A high school band, a preschool music class, a church congregation singing hymns together, baseball fans singing at the seventh inning stretch…people of all ages, all abilities, all backgrounds coming together to create art, to breathe fresh life into music a stranger composed perhaps generations before. You may not know Mozart from Metallica, but you can find solace in music that gives voice to your most complex emotions.”

The Feed & Seed Marching Abominables will celebrate the opening of “Music on the Wall: An Artistic Tribute to Music” at the Suffering Artist with a march through Hogansville on Saturday at 5 p.m. The march will begin at the Calvin Hipp Park gazebo, continue to Karvelas Pizza, then the Depot and will end at the Suffering Artist Gallery.

“The band brings pure joy,” McElvy said. “You can’t help but be caught up in the rhythm when they play ‘Sing, Sing, Sing.’ And for the exhibit, I think people will enjoy this new way of seeing art. I know Victoria Slagle posted a video of her painting along with the music that inspired it. Now, every time I see her painting ‘Two Lost Souls’ I hear the music in my head.”

The “Music on the Wall” show will feature musically-themed work from the Visual Artists Alliance of LaGrange, and the reception will feature live music performed by Learning Ladder, a duo from Auburn. McElvy said that several local businesses also partnered together to make the show possible.

“We try to create shows with a lot of appeal,” McElvy said. “When it was decided that we would do a music themed exhibit, things just took off. We had hoped the band would be able to come, but had no idea it would end up being such a community event. Several businesses and organizations have joined in with the Suffering Artist gallery and the Visual Artists Alliance of LaGrange.”

Before that, Yacht Rock Revue will lead out the weekend with a performance at Sweetland Amphitheatre on Friday. Gates will open at 7:30 p.m. Yacht Rock Revue performs soft rock hits from the 70s and 80s, including favorites like “Brandy” and “Baby Come Back.” The band has a dedicated SiriusXM channel and a partnership with Live Nation. For those looking for some rebel country music with primitive Americana, Pure Life Studios will host Songwriters’ Round, featuring Charlie Hudgins, Dalton McSwain and Jamie Adamson on Friday. Then on Saturday at 6 p.m., Wild Leap Brew Co. will host its second annual Wing Jam at 308 Main Street. The event will feature live music, games, Wild Leap beer and the chance to vote for the best wings. General admission includes five wing vouchers and two voting tokens. VIP admission includes 10 wing vouchers, a commemorative Wing Jam cup, two voting tokens and 5 p.m. entry. Additional wing vouchers can be purchased on-site for $1 plus tax. Tickets are required for attendees 12-years and older.

At 7:30 p.m., those looking for a little extra folk/Americana can get their fill when Boo Radley performs at Pure Life Studios.
